We have mentioned that internet addiction causes changes in the brain and behaviors of the children and teenagers. Let’s elaborate them.

In a study carried out in China in 2010 showed that children who became an internet addict when s/he is in adolescence have 2.5 times more tendency to get into a depression. Multiple studies, again from China, revealed that gray matter density is significantly reduced in the internet or online game addicted teenagers and children.

Inactivity, not leaving home, unwillingness to exercise or for physical activity of the internet addicted children can cause problems such as weak immune system, obesity, underdeveloped cardiovascular system, Carpal tunnel syndrome.

One of the easiest observable and the most obvious result of internet addiction in children is the underdevelopment of social skills and a decrease in academic skills. Child or a teenager, who became an internet addict, will not be able to focus on her/his home assignments; lose her/his motivation to interact with others. If it is not consciously intervened, children who show internet addiction symptoms in childhood, during which the social skills are developed, will not be able to develop the social skills required for communicating and establishing a bond with others; and as a result, they will have difficulties to do so and get in a vicious circle due to the discourages resulted from a failure. This will cause them to be more introverted and become even more addicted to the internet.
The seriousness of internet addiction can be easily seen when we add the body and posture-related disorders resulted from sitting in front of a computer and looking at a small screen with an unnatural sitting position to the issues mentioned above.
